RideEasy, 2025
Design a platform that encourages tourists to see public transportation as a viable and efficient way to explore cities, highlighting its accessibility, friendliness, and cost-effectiveness.
key takeaways
overview
class: Design & Community
duration: 4 Weeks
professor: Kimberly Snyder
team: Daniel Lee
tools:
People often choose not to use public transportation due to factors like inconvenience with schedules and routes, long wait times, potential for overcrowding, concerns about safety, a lack of direct access to their destination, the perception of slower travel times compared to driving, and a preference for personal control over their transportation choice. So, we decided to design for these pain points.
research
What's the problem?
Through surveys and market research, we learned that these pain points around public transport were not being addressed properly within the market. We decided to focus on the lack of public transport within a tourist setting and routine. By targeting number 11 of the UN sustainable goals (sustainable cities and communities), we were able to start analyzing the triple bottom line.
People
Reconnecting people with travel, public spaces & love for the environment.
Profit
Marketing in places of public transport, partnering with travel services, app use, and some government funding will contribute to revenue streams.
Planet
Encouragement of public transportation leads to reduced carbon emissions, economic boosts, and social boosts.
prototyping
Once we defined our insights and conducted more user research surveys, we began prototyping the workflow. The user workflow became essential to understand because we wanted to enforce behavioral techniques and habits into the user's interaction with the platform and their tourist routine.
“Sometimes payment can be awkward when you don’t know when to buy tickets and show them.”
“Having something where you can plan a ride ahead of time would be really helpful.”
“Too much information at once especially when your in a new city or walking around can be stressful.”
The initial ideation of this platform explored a lot of curvilinear forms and simplistic screens. We continued this process and utilized heat mapping and A/B testing as ways to test for what UX/UI designs worked best.
final
After many iterations, we created RideEasy. RideEasy is a fun, user-friendly public transportation app for tourists exploring new cities. It combines all local transit options - buses, trains, trams, and more - into one easy route planner. RideEasy makes public transport feel like the safer, cheaper, and simpler way to discover a new city.
Users can navigate to the home screen to search any immediate routes needed.
In the trips tab, users can view upcoming any upcoming trips or routes. Users may also choose to add trip details or plan a route within this tab.
RideEasy also contributes to the feeling of safety when using public transport by allowing users to review any stations they have visited and see other user’s reviews.

Users may redeem any points they earn from their trips and reviews in the form of public transportation tickets, gift cards, and more!
